I\u2019m from the 70s, so my first LEGO\u00ae set is also from the 70s. This was the 614 Digger. I got it in 1976, when I was 4. I still remember this like it was yesterday. I was vacationing with my parents and another family on Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). This trip was very special for me, this was my first plane ride and my first long distance trip that I remember. And you must understand that we lived in Yugoslavia, a communist country back then, so travel to exotic places was a special privilege. We stayed at a very nice resort \u2013 there was a swimming pool, surrounded by 4 bungalows. I remember sitting on the living room sofa when my father gave me the 614 and we opened and assembled it together. The box opened like the cigarette boxes back then.<\/span><\/p>\n

As you can see on the picture, I still have the 614 and box ?<\/p>\n

I came out of dark ages in 2006. I bought the 810 crane (and Duplo train for my son). I was impressed with all the new parts and the new studless bricks. A lot has happened in the Lego Technic world in the 20 years I was absent.<\/span><\/p>\n

I quickly bought a few more used sets \u2013 8448 Super Street Sensation supercar and 8466 <\/strong>Off-Roader.<\/p>\n

While I had the 853 chassis as a child, I dreamt about 8860 since it was released way back in 1980. Of course I bought that one as well.<\/p>\n

The new Power Functions, while they enabled Technic models to be controlled remotely, were not very powerful and the range was very limited.<\/p>\n

Playing with the 9398 4×4 Crawler with a couple of friends, we got the idea about controlling the Lego models with a smartphone. We had our first working prototypes in 2013. We figured out that even though smartphone control is cool, it still does not solve the performance issue \u2013 the 9398 and other models were relatively slow and underpowered. We brainstormed about ways to get more performance out of existing Power functions motors and it quickly became apparent we need to have our own power source, more powerful than original batteries. We decided to add a battery and power boost electronics to our smartphone-controlled device. Originally called PowerBrick, the first BuWizz prototype was born.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kickstarter<\/h2>\n

After quite a few generations of prototypes, we decided to run a Kickstarter campaign to see if other people would be interested in BuWizz. And they did, so BuWizz was successfully funded in July 2016. Running the campaign was quite stressful, but at the end successful, so hard work of turning the prototype into a product which can be manufactured, began. We had to figure out a lot of things: finalize BuWizz shape, how to make the tools for the molded case, the electronics, how to solder the battery, etc. Here I must thank all team members and all external partners who made BuWizz possible.<\/p>\n

We started shipping BuWizz to Kickstarter backers in February 2017.<\/p>\n

The 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS was a highly anticipated LEGO\u00ae set back in 2016. There was a lot of speculation on LEGO\u00ae related forums and chat groups about the color (orange or violet – just like the original – were the only options, of course) and whether it will have motors and remote control or not (based on the relatively high anticipated price, some assumed it will have motors). This was all going on while we were preparing and running the Kickstarter campaign. In the end, Porsche was released without any electric components and we had to modify it quite extensively to add motors and power it with BuWizz.<\/span><\/p>\n

My role with BuWizz started after seeing a post about this product on Eurobricks back in 2016. Since the product seemed interesting and Roni was from the same country as I was, I decided to contact him. We agreed on meeting up in order to record a few videos for the Kickstarter campaign.
